Abstract: Abstract: The objective of this research is to know the effect of food and race production of silk filament of silkworm. This research was conducted at Balai Persuteraan Alam (BPA) Soppeng district, South Sulawesi 1999 which was factorial arrenged in completed randomized design. The first factor is the silkworm race consisting of Nippon China race (NC) (A) and Local Tropical race (LT) (B). The second factor is food consisting of mulberry leaves M.multicaulis (M1), M.nigra indica (NI) (M2) and BNK-3 (M3). The result of this research shows that highhest mortality was obtained in silkworm of LT race that fed on mulberry leaves M.nigra indica (NI) with K-value 0,07, and the highhest survivorship was otherwise obtained by NC race that fed on mulberry leaves of BMK-3 with k-value 0.01 only. Mortality accomulation of larvae and pupae of NC race 4,78 % was significanly low when compaerd to those of LT race. Means of female NC race might produced up to 540,1 eggs, while those of LT race might only produced 423,1 eggs. There have ben also significan diference between the percentage of hatchability NC and LT races, where female NC race obtained the highhess percentage 99,13 % and LT race obtain only 96,38 %.
